Pollen morphology of some Korean Chenopodiaceae
Young Jae Chung, Sang Tae Lee
Abstract
Pollen grains of 21 taxa of eight genera in Korean Chenopodiaceae have been examined by light and scanning electron microscopy. The pollen morphology was described and the key was made. Although pollen morphology was stenopalynous, it was revealed that pollen characters comprising pollen diameter, pore number, chord (i.e. the distance between centers of two adjacent pores) to grain diameter ratio, pore diameter, echinus number on the pore membrane, and exine thickness were useful to distinguish each genus and species. However, the results from palynology did not support either Ulbrich`s system of Chenopodiaceae or Scott`s treatments regarding Chenopodium.
