ABSTRACT
Nine taxa of the genus Plantago L. (Plantaginaceae) in Korea were reexamined on the basis of their external morphological characters. As results, a key to the species was provided. Phenetic similarity among the nine taxa was examined by principal components analysis. Twenty qualtative characters were investigated from 276 specimens representing nine taxa of Plantaga All taxa were included in subgen. Plantago by leaves alternate in a rosette; P. asiatica L., P. major var. japonica (Fra. et Sav.) Miyabe, P. major f. yezomaritima (Koidz.) Ohwi, P. polystachya (Makino) Y. S. Kim and P. alata Nakai were classified into sect. Plantago by fibrous root and ovate leaf. P. camtschatica Cham. ex Link, P. depressa Willd. were classified into sect. Mesembrynia by oblong leaf and four to five seeds and P. lanceolata L. into sect. Arnoglossum by two seeds and concave abaxial of seed. P. alata Nakai was separated from others by principal component 1, P. camtschatica Cham. ex Link by principal component 2 and P. lanceolata L. by principal component 3. The results from the PCA suggested that P. sibirica Poilet be treated as a synonym of P. depressa Willd.
